History Made With 3 Aces in Less than One Hour at Annual Opening Day Tournament
As Bubba Watson was battling 20-year-old phenom Jordan Spieth, en-route to his second Masters victory and another green Jacket, three amateur golfers in New Jersey were making their own history at Beacon Hill Country Club.
Saturday, April 12, 2014 will go down as one of the greatest days in the history of Beacon Hill Country Club, a private member-owned golf club in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, as three amateur golfers (Dr. Robert Breeden, Jim Beatty and Chuck Anttonen) all had hole-in-one’s within one hour of each other, during the club’s annual opening tournament.
According to Greg Esterhal of HoleInOneInsurance.com, the calculated odds of 3 aces in the same tournament, on the same day, was 3 million to one.
What makes this news more incredible is the fact that the club had five “hole in ones” in all of 2013, and already has three after the first event of the season.
Dr. Robert Breeden started the day off with his hole in one on the 142 yard 9th hole using a 7 Iron. Approximately 20 minutes later, Jim Beatty claimed his ace on 195 yard 18th hole with a 3 Hybrid club. Thirty minutes later, Chuck Anttonen completed the trifecta with the 2nd ace of the day on the 9th hole, using a pitching wedge.
Chuck Edwards, Head PGA Professional at Beacon Hill said, “Over the twenty years that I have been head pro at BHCC, there has never been more than one ace in a single day, to have three in the same tournament on our opening day is just amazing.”
