Jacob Stockl of Hyatt Hills won the 10th NJSGA Men’s Public Links Championship on Thursday, July 24, at Neshanic Valley Golf Course in Neshanic Station. Stockl came back strong after participating in the U.S. Public Links at Sand Creek in Newton, Kan., 10 days before, where he was defeated in the first round of match-play.
Stockl shot rounds of 1-under par 71 and 1-over 73 for 144, tying with Tim Timby of Mercer Oaks who shot rounds of even-par 72-72-144. Stockl won the extra playoff hole against Timby, which included a cut shot from 180 yards to the green. Timby’s bogey left him with second place against Stockl’s par. Drew McMahon of Mercer Oaks came in third at 70-75.
Stockl, 20, is a rising senior at Rutgers University, where he plays for the golf team. Stockl won the Rutgers Invitational at the Rutgers Golf Course last spring.
