The 2015 NJPGA/NJSGA Senior Open Championship at Metuchen Golf & Country Club Took Extra Golf to Declare a Winner

At Wednesday’s trophy presentation Jim McGovern mentioned that recently he has really enjoyed turning 50.  No one can blame the now Senior PGA Head Professional, from White Beeches CC, who in a one week span qualified for the US Senior Open and now won the NJPGA/NJSGA Senior Open Championship at Metuchen Golf & Country Club.  McGovern finished the 36-hole championship at 1-under par, 143, to win the event in his first time being eligible.  McGovern will claim 500 OMEGA Senior Player of the Year Points to take the early lead in the Senior Race.

The victory at Metuchen did not come easy, however, as Chris Dachisen (North Jersey CC) took him to three playoff holes and had a 12-foot birdie putt chance of his own to win the title in the 2nd playoff hole. Afterwards, Dachisen said, “I was very happy with my play this week and how I made three birdies down the stretch just to get in a playoff with Jimmy.”   Dachisen’s next chance to win a Senior Major will come at Black Oak GC in the newly added Senior Match Play Championship in June.

Taking the low amateur was Ron Vannelli of Forsgate CC who finished 3-over par for the event.

Congratulations to our champion and thank you to the members at Metuchen GCC for hosting!
