Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, New Jersey hosted 80 Professionals and 80 Amateurs in the National Car Rental Pro Scratch Championship presented by Polo Golf on Monday, July 28. The event was a 36-Hole Four Ball Stroke Play Championship contested on both the Highlands and Par 3 Hickory Course. After round one, the Host PGA Director of Golf Matt Freitag and his member Rick Sovero (winners of the event in 2012) had a three-stroke lead as they posted a 9-under par, 63, on the Highlands Course. Low round in the morning on the Hickory course came from Michael Kierner (Maplewood Country Club) and his partner Scot Pasquale with a 6-under par, 49.
In the afternoon, the teams switched over to the opposite course from the one in the morning to complete their 36 holes. PGA Professional Ed Whitman (Knickerbocker Country Club) and his son Brian Whitman were trailing Frietag and Sovero by four shots heading into their second 18 on the par 3 course. The two Whitmans proceeded to fire a 7-under par, 47, with six birdies, one bogey and a hole-in-one by Ed Whitman on the par 3, seventh hole. This 36-hole total of 12-under par, 114 proved too much for the rest of the field in the end and helped the duo claim the 2015 Championship.
