West Caldwell, NJ – For the second year in a row, the Fall Finale, which is the final major championship on the NJPGA schedule, was a battle between Due Process Stable GC Head Professional, Brett Jones, and Ridgewood CC Assistant Professional, Alex Beach. However, this year the outcome was a role reversal of 2014 with Beach claiming victory at Mountain Ridge CC and closing out on his first Major Championship in the New Jersey PGA Section.
The 2nd year assistant at Ridgewood CC, Alex Beach, started the 2nd day with a 1-shot lead after posting a 67 in round 1.This lead slipped away after a 3 over par 2nd round giving Jones a 1 shot lead. This back and forth lasted all of round 3 until Brett Jones slipped off a little bit towards the end finishing in 3rd place. Alex, feeling the pressure heading in, continued to stay focused and after a double bogey on the 17th made a tough 2 putt on the 54th hole for a final round of 1 over par to finish the tournament 67-74-72 for a three day total of Even Par, 213. Our runner-up for the 2nd championship in a row was Dave McGovern of Brooklake CC with a three day total of 2-over par, 215.
Even though Brett Jones placed third in the NJPGA Major in 2015, Jones still finished the year as the OMEGA NJ Section Player of the Year, placing over 1,000 points higher than the runner-up Alex Beach. Jones came out of the gate this year playing impressive golf, winning both the NJPGA Match Play Championship at Canoe Brook CC and Lincoln Charity Clambake at Hamilton Farm GC. His success did not end at the local level, as Brett finished top 20 in the Professional National Championship and earned a chance to tee it up alongside his brother, Matt Jones, in the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.
Additionally, Jim McGovern of White Beeches GCC, in his first year as a senior professional in the Section, was officially named the OMEGA NJ Section Senior Player of the Year. The former PGA Tour Player won both the NJPGA/NJSGA Senior Open at Metuchen GCC and the Inaugural Senior Match Play Championship at Black Oak GC. Jim was also successful qualifying for the US Senior Open and even competed in the British Senior Open overseas.
The Fall Finale was the last event awarding OMEGA Section Player of the Year points which finalized the Turnpike Cup Team (Top 10 & Top 2 on the Senior Points), 2016 Met Open Exemptions (Top 5), 2016 NJSGA State Open Exemptions (Top 20) & the 2016 NJPGA Match Play Championship Exemptions (Top 32).
