The 8th Annual New Jersey Golf Foundation (NJGF) Golf Classic will be held on Monday, August 4, 2014, at Baltusrol Golf Club. The Golf Classic is the signature event for the New Jersey Golf Foundation, the charitable arm of the New Jersey Section of the PGA of America, which was created to positively impact lives and communities through the game of golf, with a focus on dynamic programming that serves youth, military and special needs/diversity.
The NJGF Golf Classic, presented by Wells Fargo, will benefit a breadth of player development programs, with the primary beneficiary being the Golf In Schools program. The NJGF’s award-winning Golf In Schools program, which annually impacts more than 110,000 boys and girls (K-8) at more than 200 schools throughout the Garden State, has become a model for all 41 PGA of America sections across the country and is fully funded by the NJGF at no cost to school districts. Golf In Schools is an initiative designed to introduce the game to children by incorporating golf into the physical education curriculum at elementary and middle schools, under the guidance of PGA Professionals. As part of this program, the NJGF provides each school with an allotment of SNAG (‘Starting New At Golf’) golf equipment (grades K-5) and AlmostGolf equipment (grades 6-8), developmentally appropriate equipment that allows golf to be learned and played in non-traditional venues, such as a school gymnasium and limited-space outdoor areas.
The morning session registration and continental breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. The afternoon registration and lunch will begin at 11 a.m. A special golf clinic for boys and girls with special needs will be hosted by PGA Professionals at 11:30 a.m.
The 2014 Chairman’s Award will be presented to Norman E. Lewis, Senior Vice President at Wells Fargo Insurance Services, Inc. The Chairman’s Award is presented to an individual who works incessantly to support the NJGF’s programs and initiatives. Mr. Lewis is currently the president of Morris County Golf Club and a co-founder of The Agents for Children’s Health charity that raises money for St. Joseph’s Hospital Children’s Outreach Program in Paterson.
Additionally, there will be a silent auction with items ranging from tickets to local sporting events to rounds of golf at world famous golf courses. For those unable to attend, the items are posted for online bidding here: http://bit.ly/1pfscLq
