PGA Professional Walt Baker to Be Honored

The 2016 Just Rivals Golf Classic was on Monday, June 27th at Plainfield Country Club. Committed to supporting military Veterans, the 2016 event served to benefit PGA HOPE – Helping Our Patriots Everywhere, the flagship military program of the New Jersey Golf Foundation.

The annual event which featured an impressive line-up of NFL legends was highlighted by a PGA HOPE clinic, whereby NJPGA Professionals introduce the game to a group of military Veterans that are living with physical/cognitive challenges such as TBI, PTSD and amputees. PGA Professional Walt Baker (Willowbrook Golf Center, Wayne, NJ) was honored at the 2016 event for his heroic service as a Sgt. in the United States Army. Having served two Tours of duty in Vietnam, which included being the “point man” for major combat operations, Baker was recognized with several distinguished medals, highlighted by 2 Bronze Stars for Valor and Meritorious Service. These medals were received for heroism in connection with military operations against hostile force, as Sgt. Baker’s courage and regard for the welfare of his fellow soldiers, undoubtedly saved many lives.

Additionally, for his dedicated service to the USA, Baker received a Combat Infantry Badge; Vietnam campaign Medal; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Medal; NJ Vietnam Service Medal and a NJ Distinguished Service Medal. Baker currently serves as one of the lead instructors for all PGA HOPE programming conducted by the NJGF.

ABOUT PGA HOPE
Learning and playing the game of golf has become a therapeutic part of the rehabilitation process for Military Veterans with disabilities. The PGA HOPE program introduces the game to Veterans with disabilities in order to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. Led by PGA Professionals, the PGA HOPE program has helped thousands of Military Veterans assimilate back into their community through the social interaction the game of golf provides. PGA HOPE programming is fully funded by the NJGF and offered at No Cost to Veterans.
